2018 FIFA World Cup: Volunteers are ready for action

In December of 2015 RSSU founded the Centre of Volunteers for 2018 FIFA World Cup that will be held in Russia. Along with all the other Centers in Russian cities, our university was authorized to train volunteers, people who will be a backbone of the championship. Therefore, on June 1 Vladimir Putin officially launched the recruitment of volunteers for forthcoming FIFA World Cup.
President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin:
“There are only two years left before the most anticipated sporting event that will take place in our country for the first time. Russia will welcome 32 national football teams of the world. Today we start the program that will get involved an immense number of volunteers. During one month 15 thousand of young people dressed in volunteer uniform will be a hallmark of our country for football fans from all across the world. Volunteers will influence the impressions brought to our guests. Volunteer movement has already proved to be in high demand. Volunteers that took part in the organization of Winter Olympic Games in Sochi and Summer Student Games 2013 in Kazan. FIFA World Cup is a glorious sporting event and participating in it as a volunteer is a great honor. The main goal of the volunteers will be a selfless and dedicated service to the noble and creative objectives of their movement. »
After the welcoming speech the president along with other participants of the ceremony put his signature on the soccer ball that was later handed to the volunteers. This symbolic act defined the start of the volunteer program of FIFA World Cup 2018.
The special guests of the event were the head of FIFA Gianni Infantino, the Minister of Sports Vitaly Mutko, the director of the Organizing Committee “Russia-2018” Aleksei Sorokin, the Mayor of Moscow Sergei Sobyanin, famous football players Carles Puyol and Rinat Dasayev. At the very beginning of the ceremony all the guests of the event witnessed DJ performance of renowned football player of Russian national team Ruslan Nigmatullin. The launch of the program also included teleconference with Nizhny Novgorod, Sochi and Kazan, the cities that will host the championship.
The ceremony was attended by the rector of RSSU Natalia Pochinok and 170 volunteers from RSSU. The rector appraised the official start of the program:
“Volunteers from Russian State Social University have always been participating in major sporting events. Centre of Volunteers of RSSU has accumulated considerable experience and has an excellent reputation. At the moment we almost have completed recruitment of volunteers. The program launched by the president will generate a significant momentum in the volunteer movement.”
Ceremony of the launch of the program was a celebration of youth, energy and music. After the official part of the event the guests watched a performance of popular Russian singer, bronze winner of “Eurovision-2016” Sergey Lazarev.
