Cross-cultural social work: Russian and American experience

On May 17 within the framework of cooperation of Science and Education Centre of Transversal and Cross-cultural Social Work of the Faculty of Social Work of RSSU and the Centre of Family Education «Faith.Hope.Love», International Scientific Workshop “Cross-cultural social work: Russian and American experience” took place in RSSU.
Colleagues from USA were offered an excursion around the Centre. Aside from being introduced to the Centre´s facilities they got an opportunity to observe activities for children with special needs.
After the excursion all the participants attended the workshop with target audience of professionals, teaching staff and students.
Svetlana Gasumova, said a few words about the Project implemented jointly by the School of Social Work of University of Iowa and Perm State University. Ekaterina Khodarina talked about cooperation of universities and social service institutions. Irina Galasiuk presented a model of integrated sociopsychological support for families upbringing a child with special needs “Family Supervisor”. Resprestentative of the School of Social Work of University of Iowa Carol Coohey delivered a speech about the University of Iowa standards of evaluation of students´practice in social work.
Assistant professor of the School of social work of University of Iowa Aislinn Conrad-Hiebner made a presentation «Beyond the raising of a child: how to maintain economic well-being in socially vulnerable families»
Caroline Hartley, another representative of the School, gave a presentation named “Problem of abuse and neglect of children in the USA: Review of Child Protection System”
Amy Butler, assistant professor of the School of social work of University of Iowa, talked about smoking and alcohol consumption as a result of sexual abuse in childhood.
