RSSU negotiates educational development and cooperation with Guatemala

The visit was co-organized with Federal Agency for the Commonwealth of Independent States, Compatriots Living Abroad and International Humanitarian Cooperation “Rossotrudnichestvo” and MISIS. Aside from conclusion of agreements, delegation of RSSU took part in fruitful negotiations with the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Guatemala.

During the visit RSSU concluded agreements with two leading universities of the country: University of San Carlos and Rafael Landivar University.

The visit was co-organized with Federal Agency for the Commonwealth of Independent States, Compatriots Living Abroad and International Humanitarian Cooperation “Rossotrudnichestvo” and MISIS. Aside from conclusion of agreements, delegation of RSSU took part in fruitful negotiations with the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Guatemala.

University of San Carlos is the oldest university of Guatemala and the only Institute of higher education in the country. It’s believed to be a supervisor in a field of higher education of Guatemala. During negotiations Russian delegation and representatives of San Carlos University discussed not only bilateral cooperation, but also an issue of concluding intergovernmental agreements on mutual recognition of educational qualifications between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Guatemala.

The largest private university of Guatemala Rafael Landivar University showed interest in development of joint programs with RSSU. The main areas of cooperation highlighted by the counterparts are establishment of Russian language center in Rafael Landivar University, academic mobility and collaboration in a field of pedagogical studies. The represantatives of both universities took decision to create a base department – a representative office of RSSU in Rafael Landivar University. The department is supposed to gradually transform into a center of educational and scientific cooperation between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Guatemala.

The Ministry of Education of the Republic of Guatemala, which recently has become one of the major partners of RSSU, expressed great interest in cooperation with RSSU in development of inclusive education in Guatemala. 

According to the Deputy Minister of Higher Education of the Republic of Guatemala Hector Alejandro Canto Mejía, nowadays problems of inclusive education are rather considerable. He claims that cooperation with the Russian counterpart and enormous experience of RSSU will help universities of Guatemala to solve the problem of social inclusion at various levels.
